Looking At Rodney Coe’s Junior College Statistics. Remember Him?

With rumors about Mika’il McCall’s departure from Iowa lingering, the Hawkeyes may find themselves scrambling to find some depth at  the running back position for next season.

The Hawkeyes used a variety of running backs to try to find a backup to Marcus Coker but none of them could get consistent playing time and saw very limited action.  Assuming that McCall does leave, it makes you wonder who will be the player that steps up and takes the load off Marcus Coker?  One player that I thought about when trying to answer this question was Rodney Coe.

Rodney Coe is 6’3”, 230 pounds and a 4-star recruit at running back out of Edwardsville, Illinois. Coe was the top prize in last season’s recruiting class for the Hawkeyes but due to some academic issues had to enroll and play football at Iowa Western Community College.

There is nothing out there that suggests that Coe will be playing for the Hawkeyes next season. With everything that has gone on at the running back position for Iowa it got me wondering how Rodney Coe did rushing the ball in his first season at Iowa Western Community College.  Here are his individual game stats that were provided from NJCAA.

Rodney Coe only got in double digits in carries one time this season and that was in their last game of the season, when he got 13.  Coe averaged over 6 yards per carry this season and had games where he was close to a 100-yards rushing on very limited carries.

There has been nothing out there stating that Rodney Coe could be playing for the Hawkeyes next season but he is someone to keep an eye on as potential backup running back.
